HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME ONE
- Langmeyer and Simmons starter
Ally Hyde held the bats in check until the fourth when MIT took advantage of an error on a single by senior
Katia Pendowski (Ekl Grove Village, Ill.) to score the first run of the day. Pendowski then scored on a sacrifice fly from classmate
Mackenzie Relihan (Naperville, Ill.) to make it a 2-0 game.
Â
- Two runs were more than enough for Langmeyer who allowed just two baserunners in the game. Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Langmeyer becomes the sixth individual to throw a no-hitter. She finished with two walks and 10 strikeouts to improve to 7-1. Hyde (1-6) was just as impressive and went six innings, and allowed two unearned runs on five hits with one walk.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME TWO
- The Sharks scored five runs in the third as they pieced together six straight one-out hits.
Â
- MIT got two runs back in the fourth on RBI hits from Relihan and first-year
Arianna Kumar (San Diego, Calif) to cut the Simmons lead to three.
Â
- The Sharks looked to tack on a sixth run in the fifth, but senior
Kennedy Adkison (San Jose, Calif.) sent a perfect throw to home to get the runner trying to score and end the fifth.
Â
- Sophomore
Mackenzie Bivin (San Diego, Calif.) led off the fifth with a double, and the Engineers would load the bases with no outs. Relihan recorded an RBI groundout, and junior
Mikayla Cable (Valrico, Fla.) followed with a perfect bunt to score Adkison and make it a one-run game. Kumar then tied the game with a triple to right.
- Sophomore
Kara Hines (Cynthiana, Ky.) led off the sixth with a double and scored the go-ahead run as Bivin reached on an error. Bivin then scored an insurance run on a Pendowski single to right.
Â
- Sophomore
Nicole Doering (St. Louis Park, Minn.) retired the Sharks in order in the seventh to secure the 7-5 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Doering earned her first collegiate win with 4.2 innings of two-hit ball. She struck out a career-high five batters and gave up just two walks.
Â
- Bivin and Pendowski both went 3-4 at the plate. Relihan and Kumar added two RBI each in the contest.
