No. 19 Women's Tennis Victorious Over Springfield, 9-0

THE BASICS:

- The Lead: The No. 19 MIT women's tennis team secured a swift 9-0 victory over NEWMAC rival Springfield College on Tuesday afternoon in Springfield, Mass.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- MIT won all three of its doubles matches with the first win of the day coming from first-years Anastasia Samets (Ocean, N.J.) and Katya Shepherd Johnson (Takoma Park, Md.) 8-1 in No. 3 doubles over Natalia Peyon and Kelly McGoldrick. In No. 2 doubles junior Jay Lu (Austin, Texas) and first-year Saina Deshpande (Pune, India) registered a swift 8-0 win over Kate Rosselli and Alysa Elliott. In the top slot sophomores Alaina Kolli (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) and Artemis Pados (Delray Beach, Fla.) secured the last doubles win 8-2 over Kapom Vettayawaikoon and Ramida Manataweewat.

- Samets and Deshpande both earned 6-0, 6-0 wins against McGoldrick and Elliot in the No. 5 and No. 4 positions respectively.
- In the No. 3 position Kolli secured a 6-0, 6-1 win against Veronica Fulgieri, while first-year Sophia Min (Naples, Fla.) defeated Roselli 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 6 position.
 
- Shepherd Johnson and Lu both earned 6-1, 6-1 wins against Vettayawailoon and Manataweewat in the No. 1 and 2 positions respectively.
