Softball Drops Doubleheader to No. 15 Tufts

Location: Medford, Mass. (Spicer Field)

The Lead: The MIT softball team dropped a road doubleheader to No. 15 Tufts on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME ONE

- The Engineers loaded the bases in the first as first-year Nicole Johnston (St. Charles, Ill.) reached on an error and advanced to third on a double by junior Mackenzie Bivin (San Diego, Calif.). First-year Arianna Kumar (San Diego, Calif.) worked a two-out walk, but Jumbos pitcher Sky Johnson got out of the inning without allowing a run.
 
- Michelle Adelman doubled to left to plate a run but the Engineers threw out the runner at home to hold Tufts to one run in the inning. The Jumbos tacked on three runs in the second to take a 4-0 lead.
 
- MIT loaded the bases again in the fifth, but left them loaded. Sophomore Olivia Scarpaci (Staten Island, N.Y.) singled with one out in the seventh, but Johnson got the next two outs for the 4-0 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Sophomore Caroline Langmeyer (Upper Arlington, Ohio) falls to 8-3 with six innings of five-hit ball. She walked three and struck out two.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME TWO

- The Jumbos took a 7-0 lead into the sixth thanks to two home runs by Keriann Slayton.
 
- MIT got on the board in the sixth on a single to center by sophomore Kara Hines (Cynthiana, Ky.) that scored Bivin and first-year Ellie Hasegawa (Highland, Md.).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Hines led the Engineers with two hits in the game.

- Junior Becca O'Connor (San Antonio, Texas) falls to 3-5 as she went three innings and allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits with two walks. Sophomore Nicole Doering (St. Louis Park, Minn.) threw three innings of two-hit ball with two runs, one walk and one K.
 
UP NEXT:

-  MIT returns to the diamond for a pivotal NEWMAC contest on Friday, April 19th at Salve Regina. Game one is scheduled for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
