The Lead: Junior
Mikayla Cable (Valrico, Fla.) totaled four hits and six RBI and helped lead a late-inning comeback in game two as the Engineers earned the doubleheader sweep on the road against Salve Regina.
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME ONE
- First-year
Arianna Kumar (San Diego, Calif.) recorded RBI singles in the first, fourth, and sixth innings for the first three runs of the day for MIT.
- Sophomore
Caroline Langmeyer (Upper Arlington, Ohio) did not allow a baserunner until the fourth when
Morganti Bello led off with a double, but Langmeyer got the next two Salve batters to strike out and a popup to short to strand Bello on second.
- Sophomore
Olivia Scarpaci (Staten Island, N.Y.) led off the seventh with a double and scored on a double by first-year
Nicole Johnston (St. Charles, Ill.). Cable followed with her first homer of the day to make it 6-0. Langmeyer retired the Seahawks in order in the bottom of the inning to secure the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Langmeyer improved to 9-3 with a two-hit shutout. She walked none and struck out a career-high 11 batters.
- Bivin and Kumar led the Engineers with three hits each in the game with Kumar leading the team with three RBI. Bivin also scored all three times she reached base.
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME TWO
- Junior
Kennedy Adkison (San Jose, Calif.) plated Johnson with a sacrifice fly in the first, but the hosts tied it up in the bottom of the frame.
- Cable launched her second homer of the day to put MIT up 4-1 in the second, and senior
Katia Pendowski (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) made it a 5-1 game with an RBI single in the third.
- Salve pulled even with a four-run third, but in the fifth, senior
Mackenzie Relihan (Naperville, Ill.) put the Engineers back in the lead with an RBI double.
- The Seahawks took the lead in the sixth with two RBI singles to go up 7-6.
- MIT got the first two batters on in the seventh, and Pendowski knocked them home with a double to center to make it an 8-7 game. Cable added some insurance runs with a two-RBI double to center to make it a 10-7 game. Langmeyer struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh to secure the sweep.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Cable tied her career-high with five RBI in the game as she went 3-5 at the plate. Pendowski also recorded three hits and three RBI in the contest. Her three hits also give her 100 for her career.
- Langmeyer pitched 1.1 innings in relief to get her 10th win of the year. She gave up one hit with four Ks.
UP NEXT:
- The Engineers return to Briggs Field tomorrow, Saturday, April 20th when they host Wellesley for a NEWMAC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m., and MIT will honor its Senior Class prior to the game.
