The Lead: No. 11 MIT picked up its seventh straight victory following a 9-0 decision against Wheaton College in NEWMAC women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-Junior
Jay Lu (Austin, Texas) and first-year
Saina Deshpande (Pune, India) kicked off the match with an 8-0 victory over
Izzy Kruse and
Zoe West in the No. 3 doubles slot. Senior
Kimberly Liao (Commack, N.Y.) and first-year
Anastasia Samets (Ocean, N.J.) followed with an 8-2 win against
Mareike Mueller and
Asia-Leigh Hollis in the No. 2 position while sophomores
Alaina Kolli (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) and
Artemis Pados (Delray Beach, Calif.) also notched an 8-2 victory as they defeated
Kara Greenlee and
Alissa Ortiz.
- Deshpande did not drop a game in her straight-set win against
Taylor Wilson at No. 3 singles while Lu clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Greenlee in the No. 2 slot. At the top of the ladder, first-year
Katya Shepherd Johnson (Takoma Park, Md.) posted a 6-0, 6-3 decision versus Mueller. Pados produced a 6-1, 6-0 win against
Laila Haraj-Sai in the No. 4 position as first-year
Alicen Liu (Novi, Mich.) cruised past
Haylee Doiron, 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 spot. First-year
Nishi Gandra (Mason, Ohio) closed out the match by defeating Hollis, 6-0, 6-0, in the fifth slot.
