No. 11 Women's Tennis Cruises to 9-0 Victory Over Mount Holyoke

THE BASICS:

- Scores: No. 11 MIT 9, Mount Holyoke College 0

- Records: MIT (13-3, 8-0 NEWMAC), MHC (10-4, 4-4 NEWMAC)

- Location: Cambridge, Mass (DuPont Tennis Courts)

- The Lead: On the DuPont Tennis Courts, the No. 11 MIT women's tennis team extended its winning streak to eight as it swept NEWMAC rival Mount Holyoke College, 9-0, on  Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Senior Kimberly Liao (Commack, N.Y.) and first-year Anastasia Samets (Ocean, N.J.) grabbed the first point of the day at No. 3 doubles courtesy of a forfeit by Mount Holyoke. Junior Jay Lu (Austin, Texas) and first-year Saina Deshpande (Pune, India) did not give up a game as they defeated Rachel Allen and Cal Smith, 8-0, in the No. 2 spot. Sophomores Alaina Kolli (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) and Artemis Pados (Delray Beach, Calif.) followed with an 8-2 victory over Annika Chai and Kirat Kaur in the top slot.

- The Lyons were forced to forfeit the No. 6 singles match and in the No. 3 position, first-year Nishi Gandra (Mason, Ohio) clinched the match as Allen retired due to injury. Samets posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Kaur in the No. 2 spot while first-year Alicen Liu (Novi, Mich.) topped Smith, 6-1, 6-0, in the No. 4 position. First-year Sophia Min (Naples, Fla.) produced a 6-1, 6-1 decision against Kate Vavra in the No. 5 slot as fellow first-year Katya Shepherd Johnson (Takoma Park, Md.) closed the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Chai at the top of the ladder.
