The Lead: The MIT softball team outscored Emerson 18-3 en route to a doubleheader sweep on Friday afternoon on Briggs Field. Sophomore
Caroline Langmeyer (Upper Arlington, Ohio) set a new career-high in strikeouts with 12 in the game one win.
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME ONE
- The game was scoreless until the Engineers put up six runs in the bottom of the fifth. First-year
Nicole Johnston (St. Charles, Ill.) and junior
Mackenzie Bivin (San Diego, Calif.) drew bases-loaded walks, and junior
Kennedy Adkison (San Jose, Calif.) and senior
Katia Pendowski (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) each recorded two RBI hits.

- Emerson got two runs back in the bottom of the sixth, but Johnston and Bivin doubled home runs to increase the MIT lead to 8-2. First-year
Arianna Kumar (San Diego, Calif.) knocked in Bivin for the ninth run of the day to secure the win for MIT.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Langmeyer earned her 12th win of the year as she with six innings with a career-high 12 Ks. She scattered seven hits with one walk. Junior
Katie Katsuyama (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) pitched the final inning and recorded two strikeouts.

- Johnston, Bivin, Pendowski, and Adkison recorded two RBI in the game. Adkison also led the way with two hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME TWO
- Emerson took an early 1-0 lead in the first before the Engineers put up five in the third. Johnston singled to center to tie the game and MIT took advantage of Emerson's errors to take a 3-1 lead.

- Senior
Mackenzie Relihan (Naperville, Ill.) gave MIT a 5-1 lead with a single in the third. MIT scored two runs on wild pitches and sophomore
Kara Hines (Cynthiana, Ky.) made it 8-1 with an RBI single to left in the fifth.

- Junior
Mikayla Cable (Valrico, Fla.) ended the game with a sacrifice fly to give MIT the 9-1 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Sophomore
Nicole Doering (St. Louis Park, Minn.) went the distance allowing just one run on two hits. She struck out a career-best seven batters to improve to 3-0.

- Relihan led MIT as she went 3-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
