Softball Drops Non-Conference Doubleheader to Endicott

THE BASICS:
 
- Score:
Game 1: Endicott - 11, MIT - 6
Game 2: Endicott - 4, MIT - 0

- Records: MIT (21-11), Endicott (23-10)

- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Briggs Field)

- The Lead: The MIT softball team fell to Endicott College in both games of a doubleheader to conclude the Engineers non-conference portion of the schedule.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME ONE

- Endicott took a quick 1-0 lead, but the Engineers responded in the bottom of the inning as junior Mackenzie Bivin (San Diego, Calif.) scored on a Gulls error.
 
- The visitors put up six runs in the third to take a 7-1 lead.
 
- Junior Mikayla Cable (Valrico, Fla.) tripled home two runs to make it a 7-3 game and scored on a bunt from first-year Nicole Johnston (St. Charles, Ill.). MIT got to within four when Johnston came around to score on a single by first-year Arianna Kumar (San Diego, Calif.).
 
- Endicott responded with a four-run sixth, but a Cable RBI single made it an 11-6 game, but the Engineers could not get any closer as Endicott took the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Cable went 2-4 with three RBI, while Johnston also tallied two hits and an RBI. Sophomore Olivia Scarpaci (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded two hits and two runs scored.
 
- Junior Katie Katsuyama (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) threw 3.1 innings and struck out two.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME TWO

- Kristen Beebe held the Engineers hitless until the bottom of the sixth when junior Kennedy Adkison (San Jose, Calif.) singled. Johnston later singled to put two runners on, but the Engineers were unable to get a run across the plate.
 
- Endicott scored two runs in the third and added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh to earn a 4-0 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Beebe went seven and allowed just two hits and one walk with one strikeout.
 
- Sophomore Nicole Doering (St. Louis Park, Minn.) tossed 5.2 innings and allowed three runs on five hits. Junior Becca O'Connor (San Antonio, Texas) went the last 1.1 innings and allowed one hit and one unearned run.

UP NEXT:

-  The Engineers wrap up their regular season home slate with a NEWMAC doubleheader on Friday, May 3rd against Coast Guard. Game one is slated for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
