Softball Splits NEWMAC Doubleheader With Coast Guard

THE BASICS:
 
- Score:
Game 1: MIT - 9, Coast Guard - 1
Game 2: Coast Guard - 8, MIT - 1

- Records: MIT (22-12, 12-6 NEWMAC), Coast Guard (13-19, 11-7)

- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Briggs Field)

- The Lead: The MIT softball split its regular season home finale with the Coast Guard Academy as the Engineers took game one in five innings but fell to the Bears in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME ONE

- A nine-run first helped MIT secure the win. The Engineers worked four bases-loaded walks, and junior Mackenzie Bivin (San Diego, Calif.) had a bases-clearing double to make it 9-0.
 
- The Bears got their run on an RBI triple in the fourth.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Sophomore Caroline Langmeyer (Upper Arlington, Ohio) recorded her 14th win as she tossed all five innings, and allowed the one run on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
 
- Junior Mikayla Cable (Valrico, Fla.) and first-year Nicole Johnston (St. Charles, Ill.) had two hits each in the game.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME TWO

- Coast Guard took the lead in the third with four runs on two hits.
 
- The Engineers got the lead-off batter on in innings 3-5, but were unable to get a run across.
 
- The Bears put up another four-run inning in the sixth.
 
- Junior Kennedy Adkison (San Jose, Calif.) led off the sixth with a single to center and scored the first run of the day for MIT on a single from senior Rylie Spiegel (Rumson, N.J.), but that would be the only run of the day for the Engineers.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Bivin and Adkison led the Engineers with two hits in the game.
 
- Langmeyer tossed two innings allowing one hit and one unearned run with two walks and four strikeouts. Junior Katie Katsuyama (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) threw 2.2 innings of three-hit ball with two walks and two strikeouts. She allowed three unearned runs.
 
UP NEXT:

-  MIT concludes the regular season tomorrow, April 4th with a road doubleheader at Clark. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
