Women’s Volleyball Earns AVCA Team Academic Award, Claims Spot on Academic Honor Roll

Lexington, Ky. (July 18) – Sponsored by INTENT, the MIT women's volleyball team collected its 18th consecutive American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award as announced by the organization on Wednesday. In addition, the Engineers earned a spot on the Academic Honor Roll for the sixth year in a row by virtue of ranking in the top 20 percent of Division III team GPAs.

Initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, the AVCA Team Academic Award honors collegiate and high school teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 mark on a 5.0 scale.

MIT placed a league-high nine student-athletes on the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team while additional academic accolades were earned by seniors Emily Cheng (Sunnyvale, Calif.) and Consecrata Rozario (Cary, N.C.). Both collected College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team accolades while Cheng was voted to the CSC Academic All-America Second Team.

On the court, the Engineers captured the program's third straight and ninth overall NEWMAC Championship and advanced to the regional final of the NCAA Tournament for the third year in a row.
