CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – First year Shikhar Motupally (Avon, Conn.) scored a pair of goals in his collegiate debut to lead the MIT men's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Curry College on Friday afternoon at Roberts Field.
Motupally scored his first collegiate goal in the first half before adding his second, and the game-winner, on a second half penalty shot in the second half. First year classmate Jonah Gurion (Rye, N.Y.) also scored his first collegiate goal in the second half before graduate student Aidan Hallinan (Carlsbad, Calif.) scored the fourth MIT goal.
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- With just under five minutes remaining in the first half, a shot from Motupally skipped off a defender and deflected into the Curry goal to make the score 1-0 MIT.
- The Engineers carried the 1-0 lead into the half after out-shooting Curry 13-1 in the first 45 minutes.
- Motupally doubled the MIT lead with his second of the game in the second half, scoring on a penalty shot at 57:41.
- Curry pulled one back on a penalty kick goal by senior Lucas Drons (Bellingham, Mass.) at 67:31.
- With MIT leading 2-1, Motupally played a cross to graduate student Adam Snowdon (Lorton, Va.). Snowdon centered the ball where it took a deflection off Curry goalkeeper Justin Ritz (Carver, Mass.) before Gurion tucked home the rebound at 70:37 to increase the MIT lead back to two, 3-1.
- Hallinan scored the ninth goal of his career just under six minutes later, finishing on rebound in front to make the score 4-1 at 76:20.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- MIT finished the contest with a commanding 26-3 advantage in shots.
- MIT earned a victory in its season opener for the first time since 2021, a 7-0 victory over Lesley.
- Drons now has 33 career goals in 49 career games for the Colonels.
- Paolo Mangiafico (Farmington, Conn.) made one stop to earn his fourth career victory.
