Men's Soccer Earns 4-0 Win Over Southern Maine

Cambridge, Mass. – The MIT men's soccer team recorded three first half goals to propel the Engineers to a 4-0 victory over Southern Maine on Sunday afternoon on Roberts Field.
 
Graduate student Aidan Hallinan (Carlsbad, Calif.) tallied two goals and an assist while senior Jack Minor (Boca Raton, Fla.) and sophomore Garrett Dyson (South Orange, N.J.) each recorded their second career goals in the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

- Hallinan opened the scoring for MIT with his third goal of the season at 11:58. Hallinan tapped a pass from first year Shikhar Motupally (Avon, Conn.) past Southern Maine goalkeeper Aldo Bryant (Fairhope, Ala.).
 
- MIT went up 2-0 when rookie Jonah Gurion (Rye, N.Y.) sent a pass into the front of the cage to Minor for a header goal at 15:24.
 
- Senior Arun Kirk (Chapel Hill, N.C.) set up Hallinan for his second goal at 27:15. Hallinan collected the cross cage pass and sent a strike past Bryant into the far side of the goal.
 
- Dyson notched the fourth MIT goal, collecting a rebound off a Hallinan shot that went off the post to make the score 4-0 at 69:39.

  
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

- The two goals are a career-best for Hallinan who has 11 in his career to go with 29 career points. The five points in today's contest are also a career high.
 
- The eight goals to open the season are the most for the Engineers' since the 2021 season when they tallied 10 goals in their first two games.
 
- Sophomore Hernando Ardila (Miramar, Fla.) posted a clean sheet for his fourth career win.
 
- Bryant made two saves in one half of action and Gabe Wagner made one save in the second half.

- MIT remains home on Roberts Field as the Engineers will welcome No. 10 Tufts for a 7 p.m. contest on Wednesday, September 4.
