No. 13 Field Hockey Falls to No. 7 Tufts, 2-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.  – In a battle of nationally ranked field hockey teams, No. 7 Tufts University emerged with a 2-0 victory over MIT in non-conference field action on Wednesday night at Jack Barry Field.
 
THE BASICS:
  • Score: No. 7 Tufts University 2, No. 13 MIT 0
  • Records: No. 13 MIT (3-2 Overall); No. 7 Tufts (4-1 Overall)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Tufts registered 10 shots, six of which were on goal, and seven penalty corners before it got on the scoreboard with 2:05 left in the second quarter. On a penalty corner, sophomore Claire Casey (Charlotte, N.C.) connected on a pass from senior Kayleigh McDonald (Somerset, Mass.) at the top of the arc and sent a blast back to the near post.
  • The score remained unchanged until senior Kylie Rosenquest (Carmel, N.Y.) converted a penalty stroke in the 54th minute.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Sophomore goalie Maeve Zimmer (Rockville, Md.) collected nine saves for MIT while junior Lydia Eastburn (New Hope, Pa.) turned away three shots for the Jumbos.
  • Tufts led the way in shots (20-6), shots on goal (11-3), and penalty corners (12-7).
UP NEXT:
  • Both teams take on conference opponents on the road on Saturday, September 21. MIT will visit NEWMAC rival Smith College for a 6:00 PM game while Tufts will travel to NESCAC foe Hamilton College at 12:00 PM.
