No. 4 Women's Soccer Defeats JWU, 4-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – First year Maeve Sullivan (San Antonio, Texas) and sophomore Arianna Doss (Houston, Texas) each scored twice as the No. 4 MIT women's soccer team handed Johnson & Wales its first loss of the season as the Engineers came away with a 4-0 win on Thursday night.
 
THE BASICS
  • Score: No. 4 MIT 4, Johnson & Wales University 0
  • Records: MIT (5-0-1 Overall), JWU (5-1 Overall) 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • Senior Meagan Rowlett (Dana Point, Calif.) lifted a pass into the front of the cage that drew Carly McCrumb (Grandville, Mich.) out of her net. Junior Sean Luk (Bel Air, Md.) got to the ball first and sent a shot to the goal where Doss completed the score and give the Engineers the lead at 12:54.
  • Sullivan got the ball from junior Alice Vranka (Bronxville, N.Y.) in the MIT end and raced past the Wildcats defense. She took a shot from the top of the box that sailed right under the crossbar for the second Engineer goal at 34:45.
  • Doss intercepted a pass at midfield, got by the JWU defense, and deposited her shot into the upper corner to make it a three-goal lead at 47:01.
  • First year Zoe Barton (Los Altos, Calif.) sent a pass to Sullivan who raced down the field and lifted her shot into the upper corner of the goal at 78:34.
  INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 
  • Doss is tied for the team lead with three goals this season. Sullivan recorded the first two goals of her collegiate career.
  • Sophomore Cassidy Jennings (Sioux Falls, S.D.) made two saves in goal to move to 4-0-1.
  • McCrumb and senior Leah Bragaw (Vienna, Va.) each made three saves in the match. McCrumb falls to 2-1.
  • MIT held a slight edge in shots (13-7) but got 10 shots on target compared to just two for JWU. Both teams earned two corners in the match.
  • The Wildcats had shut out their previous four opponents. This is the fourth shutout win for the Engineers.
UP NEXT: 
  • MIT will open NEWMAC play on Saturday, September 21 as they head to Mount Holyoke for a 2:00 PM match.
