Second Half Goals Send Men's Soccer Past Suffolk, 2-0

BOSTON, Mass. – Graduate student Aidan Hallinan (Carlsbad, Calif.) headed in the game-winning goal at 55:18 of the second half as the MIT men's soccer team earned a 2-0 non-conference victory over Suffolk University on Wednesday evening at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park.

First year Shikhar Motupally (Avon, Conn.) finished with a pair of assists for the Engineers, setting-up a header from Hallinan on a free kick before he found classmate Jonah Gurion (Rye, N.Y.) with a slick pass for the second MIT goal.

THE BASICS

  • Score: MIT 2, Suffolk 0
  • Records: MIT (5-4-0 Overall), Suffolk (3-3-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The teams played to a scoreless halftime score as the Engineers had the upper hand in shots. MIT registered the first six shots in the contest, forcing Suffolk goalkeeper Nathan Harlow (London, England) into four saves. Suffolk had the final two shots of the first half.
  • MIT continued to control play at the start of the second half, totaling the first six shots of the second stanza, including Hallinan's goal at 55:18.
  • Motupally made his own bids at goal at both 54:00 and 64:02 before setting-up Gurion at 69:53 when he sliced a ball on the turf through the Suffolk back line to Gurion. Gurion did the rest with a quick touch past Harlow.
