No. 4 Women's Swimming and Diving Races Past Coast Guard, 243-53

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –  The No. 4 MIT women's swimming and diving team won every event en route to a decisive 243-53 victory over the United States Coast Guard Academy on Saturday afternoon at the Zesiger Center Pool. 

THE BASICS:    

Scores: MIT – 243, Coast Guard - 53 

HOW IT HAPPENED:   

200 Medley Relay  

1000 Free 

  • The Engineers swept the podium led by first year Lauren Adler (Ann Arbor, Mich.) with a winning time of 10:33.65. First year Mary Feliz (Millersville, Md.) followed in second with a time of 10:51.36, and sophomore Christina Beggs (Voorhees, N.J.) took third in 10:57.46. 

200 Free 

  • Roberson took the top spot, clocking in at 1:56.28. First year Jessica Crane (Katonah, N.Y.) followed in second with first year Lillian Poag (Houston, Texas), senior Miri Griffin (Centennial, Colo.), and junior Emma Zhu (Chappaqua, N.Y.) rounding out an all-MIT top-five. 

100 Back 

  • It was an all-MIT top-three led by Augustyn who finished in 56.17. Chen came in second followed by sophomore Kailey Simons (Williston Park, N.Y.) in third. 

100 Breast 

  • Bernard took the win in 1:06.42 followed by Li in second with a finishing time of 1:07.23.  

200 Fly 

  • The top-four spots belonged to MIT with Swartwood winning the event in 2:06.66. Following in second was junior Natalie Tang (Allen, Texas) with first year Chloe Xu (Pleasanton, Calif.) and Feliz rounding out top four. 

50 Free 

  • Turvey took the top spot in 24.33 followed by Rachel Yang with a time of 24.68. 

100 Free 

  • MIT dominated the event as the Engineers finished 1-9 led by Iris Yang with a time of 53.56. Rachel Yang followed with a time of 54.25 and Feliz finished third with a time of 54.39. 

200 Back 

  • Chen captured first with a time of 2:06.45.  

200 Breast 

  • Bernard posted a winning time of 2:22.28. Kudela took third in 2:30.97. 

500 Free 

  • Augustyn led the way for MIT with a winning time of 5:09.08. Crane followed in second with a time of 5:10.39 while Tang and Beggs rounded out the top-four.  

100 Fly 

  • Turvey won her second event of the day finishing in 58.05. Simons clocked in with a time of 59.23 for second and Levy rounded out the top-three with a time of 59.30. 

200 IM  

  • Bernard won her third event of the day with her winning time of 2:09.94. Swartwood and Li finished second and third respectively.  

200 Free Relay 

  • Roberson, Naveen, Yang, and Turvey closed out the day with a win in the 200-Free relay with a time of 1:36.63.  

1-Meter Dive 

  • The Engineers finished 1-2-3 in the event led by sophomore Fiora Beratahani (San Jose, Calif.) with a score of 286.65. Senior Rachel Loh (Arcadia, Calif.) and sophomore Kailey Epstein (Belle Mead, N.J.) rounded out the top-three.  

3-Meter Dive 

  • Just like they did on the 1-Meter, Beratahani, Loh, and Epstein finished 1-3 with Beratahani leading the way with a score of 302.03.   

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  

  • Augustyn captured an NCAA B Cut in the 100 Back. 
  • Bertahani hit NCAA Regional marks on both boards while Loh hit an NCAA Regional score on the 1-Meter.  

UP NEXT:   

  • The Engineers return to action on Friday, January 17 against NYU and Williams. The Ephs will host the meet that is scheduled for a 2:00 PM start.
