Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

No. 20 Men's Volleyball Defeats Endicott, 3-0

BEVERLY, Mass. - The No. 20 MIT men's volleyball team defeated hosts Endicott, 25-15, 25-20, 25-21 in non-conference action on Monday afternoon. Senior Grant Oh (Irvine, Calif.) led the way with 13 kills while senior Riley Oh (Irvine, Calif.) collected 27 assists in the match.  

THE BASICS:  

  • Scores: MIT 3, Endicott 0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-21) 
  • Records: MIT (3-0 Overall), Endicott (0-1 Overall) 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Set 1: After Endicott pulled out to a 6-4 lead, the Engineers rattled off four consecutive points, capped by a Grant Oh ace to go up 8-6. MIT remained in the lead for the remainder of the set, with the Gulls getting as close as 11-9. The Engineers ended the set on an 8-4 run as a kill from first-year Braeden Baker (Phoenix, Ariz.) gave MIT the 25-15 set win.  

Set 2: The hosts once again opened the set with the lead as the teams stayed close throughout the early portions of the set. With the score knotted at 11, MIT used a 4-1 run to pull ahead 15-12. Endicott rallied and made it a one-point set at 16-15, but the Engineers held onto the lead as an attacking error by the Gulls gave MIT a 2-0 lead with a 25-20 set win.  

Set 3: A 4-0 Endicott run gave the host a 12-10 advantage and they held onto the lead until a 4-0 run punctuated by a kill from Grant Oh gave MIT a 19-16 lead. The Engineers would not relinquish the lead as an ace from first-year Kristof Spellen (New Rochelle, N.Y.) gave MIT the 25-21 win. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  

  • Grant Oh led the way with 13 kills and hit .385. Sophomore Ryan Espinoza (Los Angeles, Calif.) finished with seven kills and Baker tallied six. 
  • In addition to his 27 assists, Riley Oh added a team-high six digs and four blocks. 
  • First-year Maddox Brandenburg (Carlsbad, Calif.) led the Engineers with five blocks. 
  • Jake Laborde (Brookline, N.H.) and Aidan Iacovelli (South Windsor, Conn.) paced the Gulls with ten kills each.  

UP NEXT:  

  • The Engineers are right back on the court with a 6:00 PM match tomorrow, Tuesday January 21 at Dean College.
