CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT generated three goals in the second half to come from behind and defeat Salve Regina University, 3-1, in a NEWMAC field hockey game on Friday night at Jack Barry Field.
Drew Hussar earned assists on two of the Engineers' goals while Julia Decker notched the Seahawks' lone goal.
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- MIT opened the game with four penalty corners and three shots on goal, but it was Salve Regina that got on the scoreboard first. Georgia Costello sent a pass from the near side into the circle, and it was collected by Decker who placed the ball inside the near post after 5:50 elapsed.
- The Seahawks almost increased their lead with 44 seconds remaining in the opening frame. Decker sent a throughball that was collected by Costello who found herself in a 1-on-1 situation with goalie Maeve Zimmer, however, Zimmer came up with the save.
- Following a second quarter that saw only two shots by Salve Regina, the Engineers ended the shutout in the 40th minute. During a penalty corner, Bailey McIntyre redirected a feed from Hussar.
- The Seahawks threatened to go back in front, but shots from Decker and Elliot Lund were saved by Zimmer.
- MIT captured a 2-1 lead on a penalty stroke goal by Janie Thomas just 1:52 into the fourth quarter. The Engineers added an insurance goal in the 51st minute when the McIntyre-Hussar connection returned during a penalty corner.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Zimmer finished with three saves while Siany Ortez collected six saves for Salve Regina.
- MIT ended the night with advantages in shots (16-8), shots on goal (9-4), and penalty corners (12-3).
UP NEXT:
- Both teams return to action on Wednesday, October 15 in non-conference games.
- MIT will travel to Western New England University for a 7:00 PM game while Salve Regina will host Roger Williams University at 6:00 PM.
