Men's Soccer Drops 2-0 NEWMAC Contest to Babson

BABSON PARK, Mass. – The MIT men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 road NEWMAC contest to Babson at Hartwell-Rogers Field.  
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: Babson 2, MIT 0 
  • Records: MIT (3-6-4 Overall, 1-2-1 NEWMAC), Babson (7-4-2, 3-0 NEWMAC) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Titus Charles got Babson on the board quickly with a goal in the tenth minute of play. Will Loyd got possession of the ball and sent a pass to Maxi Martinez who then found Charles for the score. 
  • The host had a chance to make it a 2-0 lead but Paolo Mangiafico made a diving save on a penalty kick attempt by Alexander Yablonovskiy. He made another diving save just over a minute later on a free kick from Loyd.  
  • Kaleb Asfaw had a scoring chance for MIT in the 58th minute, but his header was saved by JB Montague. 
  • The Beavers got an insurance goal from Ben Cosentino at 64:15 to seal the win. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Mangiafico made five saves in net and saw his record move to 3-5-2. 
  • Both Charles and Cosentino scored their first career goals.  

UP NEXT: 

  • The Engineers return to the pitch on Saturday, October 18 for a 1:00 PM match against Wheaton. Prior to the match, MIT will celebrate its senior class. The Beavers will play at Salve Regina next Saturday at 6:00 PM.
