Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 8 Women's Soccer Earns 5-0 Shutout Win Over Clark

WORCESTER, Mass. - The No. 8 MIT women's soccer team scored four second half goals as the Engineers earned a 5-0 NEWMAC road win over Clark on Wednesday night. Madeline Seebeck led the way for the Engineers with a career-best two goals in the contest.  

THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 5, Clark 0 
  • Records: No. 8 MIT (13-2-0 Overall, 6-0-0 NEWMAC), Clark (5-4-4 Overall, 1-3-2 NEWMAC) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Natalie Barnouw skirted around the Cougars defenders and hooked a shot from just outside the box into the far corner of the goal at 29:22. 
  • Barnouw got a pass to Seebeck outside the box where she was able to collect the ball and get past her defenders and deposit the ball into the net at 56:42.  
  • Just over three minutes later, Arianna Doss deflected a Barnouw corner kick to the front of the net where Seebeck connected to score her second goal of the match and made it 3-0 MIT at 59:53. 
  • Sasha Ceol lifted a shot from the MIT defensive end to Andrea Cummings just over the midline. Cummings then found Amara Ukomadu whose shot found the back of the net at 65:22. 
  • Skye Williams sent a pass to the front of the goal where the ball was kicked around until it found Angela Zhang who converted on the goal at 76:19 to make it a five-score lead. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • With the victory MIT extends its NEWMAC winning streak to 20 and has yet to allow a goal in conference play this season. The Engineer defense allowed just four shots in the game with one on goal. 
  • Ava Muffoletto, Maddy Noll and Cassidy Jennings combined for the shutout with Jennings making the lone save of the evening. Muffoletto got the win, playing the first half and improving her record to 11-0. 
  • Seebeck notched her first two-goal game and now has five on the year. Ukomadu got her second goal of the season while Zhang scored her first collegiate goal. 
  • Barnouw increased her team and NEWMAC lead in goals (12), assists (11), and points (35). She is currently on a three-game point scoring streak.  
  • Ceol got her first assist of the season while Cummings and Doss got their second assists of the year.  

UP NEXT: 

  • MIT remains on the road as they head to Babson for a 1:00 PM match on Saturday, October 18. The Cougars will host Coast Guard for an 11:00 AM game on Saturday.
