BABSON PARK, Mass. – In its second consecutive battle of undefeated NEWMAC women's volleyball teams, No. 16 MIT emerged with a 25-20, 25-21, 25-21 victory over Babson College on Tuesday night. Claire Underwood amassed six blocks, tying her career high, and added five kills for the Engineers.

  • Records: No. 16 MIT (17-3 Overall, 8-0 NEWMAC); Babson (14-4 Overall, 7-1 NEWMAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Set 1: Babson built an 11-5 advantage and later held a 17-13 lead. MIT responded with seven unanswered points, capped off by a block from Underwood and Jessie Trapp. An exchange of points followed until a kill by Kayleigh May and back-to-back kills from Ella Zhou secured the 25-20 win.
  • Set 2: The Engineers took a 7-3 lead courtesy of a kill by Zhou and maintained a small cushion until the Beavers tied the score at 17. A serving error led to the resumption of the back-and-forth scoring, but a kill from Zhou and a Babson hitting error gave MIT a 21-19 edge. Both teams traded sideouts before the Engineers claimed the final three points for a 25-21 victory. Following a serving error by the hosts, Eileen Sadati recorded a kill and collaborated with Underwood for a block.
  • Set 3: The Beavers claimed the first five points; however, MIT went in front, 12-11, on a kill by Zhou. Babson responded with a 6-1 burst, but the Engineers rattled off seven straight points as back-to-back aces from May resulted in a 20-17 lead. The Beavers picked up the next two points, however, a kill by Underwood and an ace from Zhou increased the cushion to 22-19. After trading points, MIT capitalized on a pair of errors to capture a 25-21 win.
