Men's Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision to Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. – The MIT men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to host Salve Regina at Toppa Field on Saturday afternoon.  
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: Salve Regina 1, MIT 0 
  • Records: MIT (3-9-4 Overall, 1-5-1 NEWMAC), Salve Regina (5-3-6 Overall, 1-2-3 NEWMAC) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The two teams played a scoreless first half with the Seahawks holding a slight 5-4 advantage in shots. Paolo Mangiafico was able to turn away all three shots on target by Salve. 
  • Shikhar Motupally had two scoring attempts turned away by Adonis Santiago in the first ten minutes of the second half to keep the hosts in the lead.  
  • The Seahawks took advantage of a defensive miscue to take a 1-0 lead at 61:54. 
  • MIT's offense looked to tie the match in the final minutes, but Santiago made four saves in the final ten minutes to secure the 1-0 win. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • MIT held a 16-12 advantage in shots while the Seahawks held an 8-7 advantage in shots on target. 
  • Both teams earned three corner kicks. 
  • Mangiafico and Santiago both made seven saves in the contest.  

UP NEXT: 

  • MIT wraps up the regular season on Saturday, November 1 with a 1:00 PM start at Emerson. The Seahawks will host Clark on Wednesday, October 29 at 7:00 PM.
