No. 15 Women’s Volleyball Defeats Endicott in Four Sets

BEVERLY, Mass. – The No. 15 MIT women's volleyball team defeated Endicott College, 25-22, 25-15, 22-25, 25-19, in a non-conference match on Thursday night. Eileen Sadati led all players with 16 kills and added two blocks in the Engineers' victory.

THE BASICS:
  • Score: No. 15 MIT 3, Endicott 1 (25-22, 25-15, 22-25, 25-19)
  • Records: No. 15 MIT (22-3 Overall); Endicott (12-11 Overall)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Set 1: After a tight start, a kill by Jessie Trapp sparked a 9-3 run that built a 17-9 advantage. MIT maintained a small cushion and later reached set point at 24-18 on a kill by Ella Zhou. Endicott responded with four straight points, but a kill by Sadati thwarted the late rally.
  • Set 2: The Engineers raced out to an 11-1 advantage after an ace by Ali Gibbs. The Gulls replied with a 7-2 run, however, MIT pulled away to capture a 25-15 victory.
  • Set 3: The third set was a back-and-forth battle as there were 12 ties and eight lead changes. A six-point burst put Endicott in front, 20-16. The Engineers countered by winning five of the next six points as a kill by Sadati evened the score at 21. An error and a kill created some breathing room for the hosts, but another Sadati kill cut the deficit in half at 23-22. The Gulls responded with back-to-back kills to take the set.
  • Set 4: MIT went up 8-2 after a block by Sadati and Claire Underwood and eventually established an 18-10 lead courtesy of a kill from Underwood. Endicott capitalized on three kills and a miscue by the Engineers to narrow the gap; however, a kill by Underwood and a block with Trapp moved the score to 20-14. MIT gradually reached match point at 24-18 on a kill from Trapp, but the Gulls extended the match with a kill. The Engineers replied with a kill by Gibbs to secure the win.
