Men's Soccer Plays to 2-2 Tie Against Gordon

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After two goals from Gianluca Balestrieri gave the MIT men's soccer team a 2-1 lead, Gordon got a late goal to tie the match as the team's ended in a 2-2 tie on Monday night on Roberts field in the resumption of the suspended match from September 6. 
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 2, Gordon 2 
  • Records: MIT (3-5-4 Overall, 1-1-1 NEWMAC), Gordon (6-3-2, 3-0-0 CNE) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Fighting Scots got on the board as Benny Simpson sent a leading pass to Luke Lindas whose shot found the back of the net at 26:29. 
  • Balestrieri took a cross field from Dilin Meloni at 42:12 and tucked the ball into the goal to tie the match at one. 
  • In the 68th minute, Balestrieri gave MIT the lead with his second goal of the game. He collected the loose ball in front and fired it into the back of the cage.  
  • Gordon tied it up with just over ten minutes to play. A loose ball in front found Benny Simpson who sent the ball over to Will Goodling who was able to get the ball past a diving Hernando Ardila for the score. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The two goals for Balestrieri are a career-high and he has now scored in back-to-back games. 
  • MIT held a slight 11-8 advantage in shots, and shots on goal (5-2). 
  • Adrila notched the decision and is now 0-1-2 on the season. Riley Calemmo made three saves and is now 4-2-2. 

UP NEXT: 

  • MIT will play at Babson on Saturday, October 11 at 1:00 PM while the Fighting Scots next play on Wednesday, October 8 against Nichols at 7:00 PM.
