No. 7 MIT Men's Swim and Dive Earns 209-91 Win Over Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The No. 7 MIT men's swimming and diving team defeated NEWMAC rival Springfield College, 209 - 91, on Saturday at the Art Linkletter Natatorium. The Engineers won all but three events on the way to the victory. 

THE BASICS: 

  • Scores: MIT 209, Springfield 91 

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • 200 Medley Relay: Evan Wong, Daniel Seong, Caden Wong and Keon McClure opened the meet with a victory in 1:37.20, topping Springfield's 'A' relay by .10 seconds.  
  • 1000 Free: Mark O'Mara outpaced teammate John Tietjen to win by 14 seconds with a time of 10:00.26. 
  • 200 Free: Jason Wang paced a 1-2-3 MIT finish with the top time of 1:46.37. 
  • 100: Back: Grant Hu won the event in 52.28. 
  • 100 Breast: MIT had six of the top seven finishers in the event, paced by Seong's winning time of 59.88. He was the only finisher under one minute.  
  • 200 Fly: Louis Avondet was in command, winning in 1:57.23, more than 12 seconds ahead of Springfield Riley Hester in second.  
  • 50 Free: McClure was the runner-up in 21.70, .01 seconds behind Springfield's Dan Backlung in first. 
  • 3-meter Diving: Truman Remenicky was the runner-up on the three-meter board, earning an overall score of 265.28. 
  • 100 Free: MIT first years Evan Wong and Ethan Fang battled for the top spot, with Wong winning the event in 47.06. 
  • 200 Back: Zach West came away with the victory in 1:57.06. 
  • 200 Breast: Daniel Seong won the event in 2:11.52.  
  • 500 Free: O'Mara held off Tietjen again in the distance events, taking first with a time of 4:50.79. 
  • 100 Fly: The Engineers swept the top three spots led by Eric Huang with a top time of 50.80. Ian Sun and McClure rounded out the top-three.  
  • 200 IM: Ethan Fang paced MIT with a top time of 1:57.71 followed by Nathan Wu and David Abarbanel
  • 400 Free Relay: Huang, McClure, Wong and Thomas Wu took the top spot with a mark of 3:10.69. 
  • 400 IM: Hu posted the best time as he finished in 4:03.40. 
  • 1-meter Diving: Remenicky took second with a score of 258.75. 

UP NEXT:  

  • MIT returns home to the Zesiger Center on Saturday, November 22 to host Bowdoin at 12:00 PM in the team's final tune-up before the MIT Invitational December 5-7.
