CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Andrew Kulhan and Colter Mahabir each ran for a pair of scores as the MIT football team celebrated senior day with a 48-14 rout of visiting Norwich in NEWMAC play on Friday night at Steinbrenner Stadium.
The Engineers, donning all black uniforms for the team's only night game of the season, scored six rushing touchdowns on the day, including the first career touchdown for senior Peyton Worthington. Senior quarterback Thomas Stueber ran for a touchdown and connected with senior classmate Alex Theriault on a 14-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.
THE BASICS:
- Score: MIT 48, Norwich 14

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- MIT scored 48 answered points in the contest, opening up a 21-0 lead in the first quarter before taking a commanding 35-0 lead at halftime. The Engineers would extend the advantage to 48-0 early in the fourth quarter before Norwich scored a pair of late touchdowns.
- Mahabir scored MIT's first touchdown on the Engineers' opening drive, as MIT took over at the Norwich five-yard line following a Norwich penalty on a punt. Mahabir punched it in on the second play of the drive.
- It was Kulhan's turn on the next MIT drive as he capped a seven play 53-yard drive with a ten-yard scamper into the end zone on 1st and 10. Kulhan also scored on the third MIT drive on a one-yard dive to make the score 21-0 with 23 seconds left in the first.
- MIT scored on its first three drives before being forced to punt on its fourth attempt. However, the Engineer defense was quick to counter, forcing a three-and-out on the next Norwich drive to return the ball to the offense.
- Five consecutive rushing plays moved the ball to the Norwich 14-yard line before Stueber and Theriault linked up for the score as the tight end hauled in a reception at the ten before finding his way to the end zone on the ensuing MIT drive.
- Chase Fishman forced a fumble on the first play of the next Norwich drive, as Chase Williams grabbed the loose ball and handed it back to the MIT offense at the Norwich 23-yard line.
- This time, Stueber called his own number, running into the end zone as he scored a 13-yard rushing touchdown on the third play of the next MIT drive. Stueber's rushing score gave MIT the 35-0 advantage it would take into halftime.
- Worthington added another MIT rushing touchdown to cap the Engineers first drive of the second half. The senior punched it in from the one-yard line on third down on his second attempt at the goal line to give MIT a 42-0 lead.
- The final MIT score of the day came in the fourth quarter, as Mahabir added another one-yard touchdown to put the hosts ahead 48-0 with 14:13 left in regulation.
- Norwich got a pair of late scores, including a six yard run from Henri Bourque that broke the MIT shutout at 6:32 of the fourth. The Cadets also scored as time expired in the fourth when Connor McFarland connected with Fionn Parker-Cummings in the corner of the end zone for a 14-yard passing score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- MIT is now 7-1 all-time against Norwich.
- Selected to finish seventh in the NEWMAC preseason coaches' poll, the Engineers will finish fourth in the conference standings with a winning record in conference play.
- James Trainer had seven total tackles to lead the MIT defense, while senior Stephen Schulze record a team-high three solo tackles.
- Senior Billy Reinbold had four tackles and pair of quaterback hurries.
- Stueber finished the game 9-of-11 for 99 yards passing while running for 75 yards on the ground.
- Mahabir and Kulhan combined for 120 yards rushing.
