HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Pomona-Pitzer built 12-6 lead, however, MIT narrowed the gap courtesy of a jumper by Brianna Lebrun and a three-pointer from Mariam Abdelbarr with 3.6 seconds on the clock.
- The Engineers carried the momentum into the second quarter as another trey by Abdelbarr put the visitors in front, 18-17, after almost two minutes expired. MIT maintained its small lead until a 10-3 run that featured seven unanswered points put the Sagehens up, 28-23, with just over three minutes remaining. Lebrun replied with two free throws and a layup, however, a layup by Pomona-Pitzer with 30 seconds to go resulted in a 30-27 edge at halftime.
- The Engineers stayed close and then a layup by Ruth Lanouette sparked a 13-4 run that created a 43-39 lead midway through the third quarter. Three lead changes and two ties followed until a pair of free throws from Lanouette kicked off a 7-2 burst that was capped by a Lobon layup right before time expired, making the score 53-49.
- MIT's lead moved to 57-51 following two free throws by April Chan at the 7:48 mark. The Sagehens responded with nine unanswered points, but the Engineers came within one point on two occasions, the last at 62-61 on a layup by Lobon with 2:51 to go. Pomona-Pitzer drained a jumper during its next possession and after a defensive battle it sank a layup with 54 seconds remaining.
- Lanouette quickly replied with a layup of her own, narrowing the gap to 66-63. However, a 5-of-6 performance at the free throw line coupled with a late layup helped the Sagehens pull away for the 73-65 victory.
