Women’s Volleyball Receives Program Record Five AVCA All-America Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Led by two-time All-America First Team selection Kayleigh May, the MIT women's volleyball team received a program record five All-America awards from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Ali Gibbs earned a spot on the Second Team, Ella Zhou was tabbed to the Third Team, and Daphne Gavros and Eileen Sadati collected Honorable Mention accolades.
 
Kayleigh May
  • 2025 AVCA All-America First Team
  • First student-athlete in program history to receive multiple All-America First Team awards
  • Directed an offense that ranks fifth in the country in hitting percentage (.260)
  • Leads the nation in assists per set (11.12) and ranks 11th in assists (1,168)
  • Previous AVCA honors: All-America First Team (2024), Region 2 Player of the Year (2024, 2025), All-Region First Team (2024, 2025)
  • Other 2025 honors: NCAA Cambridge, Mass. Regional All-Tournament Team, NEWMAC Athlete of the Year, NEWMAC All-Conference First Team 
Ali Gibbs
  • 2025 AVCA All-America Second Team
  • Ranks 16th in the country in hitting percentage (.367)
  • Graduates with 739 kills, a .364 hitting percentage, 273 blocks, and 105 aces
  • Tied for third all-time at MIT in career hitting percentage, ninth in blocks per set (.81), and total blocks
  • Previous AVCA honors: All-Region First Team (2025)
  • Other 2025 honors: NEWMAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player, NEWMAC All-Conference First Team
Ella Zhou
  • 2025 AVCA All-America Third Team
  • Led the team in aces (53) and ranked second in kills (346), kills per set (3.30), digs (314), and digs per set (2.99)
  • Previous AVCA honors: Region 2 Freshman of the Year (2025), All-Region First Team (2025)
  • Other 2025 honors: NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, All-Conference First Team
Daphne Gavros
  • 2025 AVCA All-America Honorable Mention
  • Graduates ranked eighth all-time at MIT in aces (196) and ninth in digs (1,294)
