SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – MIT scored the first seven points of the game and didn't look back as it cruised to an 81-39 victory over Mount Holyoke College in NEWMAC women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore
Rachael Zacks (Glencoe, Ill.) generated career highs in points (12) and rebounds (10) for the Engineers.
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- MIT rattled off seven straight points during the first 1:03 of the game en route to a 25-9 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
- A layup by sophomore April Chan (Fremont, Calif.) followed by back-to-back baskets by first-year Clarice Borges (Millbury, Mass.) increased the Engineers' lead to 22 points within the first two minutes of the second stanza.
- Mount Holyoke countered with a three pointer and two free throws. However, MIT's comfortable cushion held for the remainder of the quarter as two free throws by junior Alice Hall (Ambler, Pa.) made the score 41-17 at halftime.
- The Engineers outscored the Lyons, 14-1, over the course of the first half of the third quarter before going on to establish a 64-31 lead at the end of the frame. Senior Kamsi Nwogu (Algonquin, Ill.) accounted for seven points during the run.
- MIT continued to control the action in the fourth quarter as it produced a 17-8 scoring advantage.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Nwogu led all players with 16 points to go along with four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Junior Kaya Weiser (Villanova, Pa.) totaled nine points while Hall generated nine rebounds, eight points, two blocks, and two assists.
- The Engineers saw 11 players get into the scoring column.
