WORCESTER, Mass. - The No. 2 MIT women's swimming and diving team holds the lead after day one of the 2025 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championships, held at WPI. The Engineers set a new meet record with their victory in the 800 Free Relay.  
THE BASICS:    
Standings: 1. MIT (70 Points), 2. Wheaton (60 Points), 3. U.S. Coast Guard Academy (56 Points) 
HOW IT HAPPENED:   
	- 800 Free Relay: Graduate student Alexandra Turvey (Vancouver, B.C) led off the event and was followed by sophomore Sydney Smith (Atlanta, Ga.), senior Kate Augustyn (Eau Claire, Wis.), and sophomore Ella Roberson (Midland, Mich.). The Engineers clocked in at 7:22.27, almost 17 seconds ahead of second place Wheaton.  
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 
	- Augustyn has been a member of the winning 800 free relay team in four-straight years. Smith was a member of last year's winning team.  
- The time broke the NEWMAC Meet record which the Engineers set in 2023.

	- 
	The second day of 2025 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championships will begin tomorrow, Friday February 21 with prelims at 10:00 AM and finals beginning at 6:00 PM. Tomorrow's events will include the 200 Free Relay, 500 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free, 1-Meter Dive and the 400 Medley Relay.
