Record Breaking Performances and Six Victories Extend No. 2 Women's Swim and Dive's Lead at NEWMAC Championship

WORCESTER, Mass. - The No. 2 MIT women's swimming and diving team won all six events on day three of the 2025 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championship at WPI. The Engineers broke three more records and head into the final day of competition tomorrow in search of the program's 14th championship. 

THE BASICS:    

  • Standings: 1. MIT - 1,113 Points, 2. Coast Guard - 506 Points, 3. Wheaton - 449 Points 

HOW IT HAPPENED:   

  • 400 IM: Senior Kate Augustyn (Eau Claire, Wis.) claimed the top spot in 4:19.33. First year Lauren Adler (Ann Arbor, Mich.) finished second in 4:24.66 followed by classmate Jessica Crane (Katonah, N.Y.), sophomore Christina Beggs (Voorhees, N.J.), and junior Natalie Tang (Allen, Texas). 
  • 100 Fly: Graduate student Alexandra Turvey (Vancouver, B.C.) won the race with a time of 55.34. First year Rachel Yang (San Diego, Calif.) finished right behind her in 56.27 followed by first year Belise Swartwood (Honolulu, Hawaii), and junior Lauren Levy (Amherst, N.Y.). 
  • 200 Free: Sophomore Ella Roberson (Midland, Mich.) touched the wall first in 1:50.56. Sophomore Sydney Smith (Atlanta, Ga.) finished third in 1:51.52. 
  • 100 Breast: First year Sarah Bernard (Brookline, Mass.) grabbed the top spot in 1:02.26 and sophomore Anna Li (Boyds, Md.) finished third. 
  • 100 Back: Junior Annika Naveen (Wynnewood, Pa.) claimed first over Smith with a time of 55.06. Smith finished in 55.28. Senior Iris Yang (Seattle, Wash.) took fourth in 56.07. 
  • 200 Medley Relay: Augustyn, Bernard, Naveen, and Roberson finished first in 1:40.03.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Augustyn has won four straight 400 IM and set a new NEWMAC and program record. Adler, Crane, and Beggs all swam faster than last year's invited time. 
  • Turvey's 100 fly time is faster than last year's invited time and her prelim time of 55.21 set a new NEWMAC record.  
  • Roberson defended her 200 free title with a time faster than last year's invited time.  
  • Bernard swam faster than last year's invited time. Her time is the fifth fastest in the country. 
  • Naveen earned her third consecutive win in the 100 Back. She, along with Smith and Yang posted times faster than last year's invited time. 
  • The 200 Medley Relay now holds the fastest time in DIII this season. In addition, the time is a new NEWMAC record. Augustyn is a four-time winner in this event while Naveen and Roberson earned their second wins in the event. 

UP NEXT:   

  • The final day of the 2025 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championships will begin tomorrow, Sunday February 23 with prelims at 10:00 AM and finals beginning at 6:00 PM. The event will conclude with the 1650 Free, 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, 3-Meter Dive, and the 400 Free Relay.
