WORCESTER, Mass. - The No. 2 MIT women's swimming and diving team captured the program's 14th consecutive NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championship, and MIT's 200 overall NEWMAC Championship. The Engineers finished the meet with a program record of 1678 points, winning all 20 events over the four-day event.
Senior Kate Augustyn (Eau Claire, Wis.) earned her third NEWMAC Women's Swimmer of the Year. She was the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year in 2022. During the four-day event she won three individual events and was a member of four of the Engineers winning relay teams. Sarah Bernard (Brookline, Mass.) earned Rookie of the Year honors winning three individual titles and was a member of two relay wins. MIT has had the Rookie of the Year in five consecutive seasons. Fiora Beratahani (San Jose, Calif.) was named the Diver of the Year for the second straight season after sweeping the boards. MIT has now won all three major awards in three consecutive seasons.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- 1650 Free: First year Lauren Adler (Ann Arbor, Mich.) won the event in 17:08.67 while sophomore Christina Beggs (Voorhees, N.J.) took third in 17:25.88. Sophomore Camila Pierce (Raleigh, N.C.) finished in fourth.
- 200 Back: Senior Kate Augustyn (Eau Claire, Wis.) took the title with a time of 1:58.23 while first year Olivia Chen (Plano, Texas) finished behind her in 2:02.46. First year Jessica Crane (Katonah, N.Y.) finished in fourth and senior Iris Yang (Seattle, Wash.) took fifth.
- 100 Free: MIT took the top four spots led by sophomore Ella Roberson (Midland, Mich.) with a time of 50.51 followed by graduate student Alexandra Turvey (Vancouver, B.C.), sophomore Sydney Smith (Atlanta, Ga.), and junior Annika Naveen (Wynnewood, Pa.).
- 200 Breast: First year Sarah Bernard (Brookline, Mass.) won with a time of 2:13.50. Sophomore Anna Li (Boyds, Md.) took third.
- 200 Fly: First year Belise Swartwood (Honolulu, Hawaii) took the top spot in 2:04.54 followed by junior Natalie Tang (Allen, Texas) in second with a time of 2:04.74. Graduate student Sydney Chun (Chandler, Ariz.) finished third, and first year Mary Feliz (Millersville, Md.) took fourth.
- 3-Meter Dive: Sophomore Fiora Beratahani (San Jose, Calif.) completed the sweep of the boards with the top score of 548.60. Senior Rachel Loh (Arcadia, Calif.) finished second with 480.55 points and, junior Emma Scott (Belmont, Calif.) took fourth.
- 400 Free Relay: Turvey, Smith, Augustyn, and Roberson led MIT to the win with a time of 3:20.74.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Adler's was faster than last year's invited time.
- Augustyn's time is now the fastest in DIII as she has won the event four straight years. Augustyn, Chen and Crane all swam faster than last year's invited time.
- Roberson won her second consecutive 100 Free event. Roberson, Turvey, and Smith all swam faster than last year's invited time while Naveen notched an NCAA B Cut time.
- Bernard set a new NEWMAC Meet and Open record in the 200 Breast while breaking her own school record in the event. She ranks tied for fourth in the nation in the 200 Breast.
- The Engineers have won the mile in three-straight years with Beggs claiming the title last year.
- The 400 Free Relay set a new Meet, Open, and school record. The time is currently the second fastest in Division III. Augustyn is a three-time champion in this event, while Smith and Roberson earn their second victories in the event.

Qualified divers will compete at the 2025 NCAA Diving Regionals from Friday February 28-Saturday, March 1 at Springfield College. The 2025 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships will take place from Wednesday, March 19-Saturday, March 22 at the Greensboro Aquatics Center in Greensboro, N.C.
