BEVERLY, Mass. – Despite scoring three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter it would not be enough as Endicott College held on to defeat No. 18 MIT, 10-9, in a non-conference women's lacrosse game on Wednesday. Junior
Ashley Thomas (Summit, N.J.) paced the Engineers with three goals and one assist in the team's first game of the season.
THE BASICS:
- Score: Endicott 10, No. 18 MIT 9

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Endicott scored twice during the first minute of play and added a third goal at the 11:12 mark.
- Almost seven minutes later, a free position shot by senior Julianne Flusche (Ridgewood, N.J.) kicked off a four-goal burst that resulted in a 4-3 edge at the end of the frame.
- Junior Annica Lam (Livingston, N.J.) buried a free position goal midway through the second quarter, helping the Engineers enter halftime with a 5-3 lead.
- The Gulls rattled off five straight goals during the first seven minutes of the third quarter.
- Thomas ended MIT's scoring drought, narrowing the gap to 8-6 with 5:09 on the clock. However, Endicott replied with back-to-back goals.
- The Engineers generated three goals in the fourth quarter. Junior Gwen Flusche (Ridgewood, N.J.) redirected a feed from Thomas just over five minutes into the frame and then Thomas connected on a pass from Gwen Flusche at the 8:21 mark. Sophomore Jillian Butler (Brecksville, Ohio) trimmed the deficit to 10-9 courtesy of a free position goal with 6:50 left to play.
- Endicott almost added an insurance goal, but its free position shot was off the mark.
- Following an exchange of possessions, Butler and Thomas generated shots with 37 and 16 seconds remaining. However, both attempts went wide.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Gwen Flusche finished with one goal, one assist, two groundballs, and two draw controls.
- Lam posted two goals as Julianne Flusche and Butler both notched three draw controls.
- Senior Sydney Pyon (Garnet Valley, Pa.) had two caused turnovers while sophomore goalie Pauline Vien generated 10 saves and two groundballs.
