MONTCLAIR, N.J. — Salisbury starting pitcher Aidan Brinsfield (Salisbury, Md.) pitched six shutout innings, striking out five and giving up just two hits as the No. 9 ranked Seagulls defeated the MIT baseball team, 11-0, on the final day of the MSU Invitational on Sunday at Yogi Berra Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Salisbury scored four runs in the third inning and six runs in the fourth inning to build a 10-0 lead. First year Jackson Inman (Damascus, Md. ) hit a two-run home run as part of a four-run third inning. He followed with a solo shot in the sixth inning, finishing the day 2-for-3 with four RBIs.
  • Centerfielder BK Wilson (Nokesville, Va.) delivered a two-RBI single in the fourth inning to cap Salisbury's six-run rally. Inman also drove in a run in the fourth, reaching base on a bases loaded hit by pitch.
  • Brinsfield worked into the fifth inning before giving up a hit, retiring the first 14 MIT batters he faced before sophomore Louis Hernandez (Glastonbury, Conn.) singled with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Junior Eitan Moore (Jerusalem, Israel) also singled with two outs in the bottom of the sixth but Brinsfield got CJ McCarthy (Pawling, N.Y.) to ground out to end the inning and conclude his day.
  • Senior Aidan Ruiz (Perry Hall, Md.) pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh inning in relief as Salisbury closed out the 11-0 win in seven innings.
