SALISBURY, Md. - The MIT softball team earned a 4-0 shutout over Susquehanna to open the day but dropped a tough 1-0 decision to Muhlenberg on a walk-off to conclude the Margie Knight Softball Classic, hosted by Salisbury on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED - vs. SUSQUEHANNA:
- Sophomore Arianna Kumar (San Diego, Calif.) broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run single to right to plate sophomore Nicole Johnston (St. Charles, Ill.) and first year Delaney Benevides (Plainville, Mass.).
- Susquehanna had the bases loaded in the fourth and fifth innings, but starter Sarah Blackett (St. Petersburg, Fla.) was able to escape both innings without allowing a run to score.
- First year Pearl Mitchell (Rockville, Md.) added an insurance run for MIT in the sixth with an RBI single to score senior Mackenzie Bivin (San Diego, Calif.) from second.
- Blackett retired the Riverhawks in order in the seventh to lock up the shutout win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Blackett earned her first win with five innings of two-hit ball. She allowed no runs and struckout five. Sophomore Sharona Huang (Duluth, Ga.) finished the game and allowed two hits.
- Bivin and Mitchell led the way with two hits apiece for the Engineers.
HOW IT HAPPENED - vs. MUHLENBERG:
- The teams were locked in a scoreless tie until the bottom of the seventh.
- The Engineers had multiple opportunities to pull ahead, leaving the bases loaded in both the second and third innings.
- Senior Katie Katsuyama (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) held the Mules in check, allowing just one hit through six innings.
- Juniors Olivia Scarpaci (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Ava Ladd (Austin, Texas) had back-to-back one out singles in the sixth, but were left stranded.
- The Engineers got a runner on in the top of the seventh but could not get the run across the plate. Muhlenberg led off the bottom of the seventh with back-to-back singles, but Katsuyama got a groundout and fielder's choice to put two runners on with two outs. A wild pitch however would score the winning run for the Mules.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Katsuyama went 6.2 innings and allowed just the one run on three hits and two walks.
- Bivin, Scarpaci, Benevides, and senior Mikayla Cable (Valrico, Fla.) all had two hits in the game.
- MIT out-hit the Mules, 11-3.

- MIT will play its home opener on Tuesday, March 18 as the Engineers will welcome Wentworth to Briggs Field for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 PM.
