No. 14 Gustavus Adolphus Holds Off No. 25 Men's Tennis, 4-3

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 25 MIT men's tennis dropped a tough 4-3 decision to No. 14 Gustavus Adolphus College on Friday afternoon. 
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: Gustavus Adolphus College 4, MIT 3 
  • Records: No. 25 MIT (3-4 Overall), No. 14 Gustavus Adolphus College (7-7 Overall) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Gustavus took two of three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Graduate student Joseph Li (Naperville, Ill.) and sophomore Adam Sun (Glendale, Ariz.) grabbed the lone doubles win with a 6-4 win in the second position. 
  • Sun got the Engineers on the board with a 6-4, 6-1 win in three singles and graduate student Kailas Kahler (Pawtucket, R.I.) tied the match at two with a straight set win at No.1. 
  • After dropping the first set in a tie-break, senior Ryan Xiao (Cary, N.C.) rallied to win the next two for a 2-1 win in No. 2 singles. 
  • The Gusties won matches in four, five, and six singles to take the 4-3 win.  

UP NEXT: 

  • MIT goes back into NEWMAC play with a home contest against Wheaton, tomorrow Saturday, March 22 at 1:00 PM. The Gusties will head to Tufts tomorrow for a 2:00 PM contest.
