No. 25 Men's Tennis Earns 7-0 Victory Over Wheaton

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 25 MIT men's tennis improved to 2-0 in NEWMAC play as the Engineers defeated Wheaton, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon. MIT did not drop a set during the match. 
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 7, Wheaton 0 
  • Records: No. 25 MIT (4-4 Overall, 2-0 NEWMAC), Wheaton (2-6 Overall, 1-1 NEWMAC) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • MIT went 3-0 in doubles to earn the first point of the day. Graduate student Kailas Kahler (Pawtucket, R.I.) and sophomore Shrish Choudhary (Fremont, Calif.) earned a 6-2 win in No. 1 doubles while sophomores Cole Armstrong (Mary Esther, Fla.) and Grant Gallagher (Irvine, Calif.) took a 6-2 win in two doubles and first year Youngwoo Tahk (Irvine, Calif.) and graduate student Joseph Li (Naperville, Ill.) earned a 6-4 win to conclude doubles action. 
  • Li opened singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 win in four singles followed by a 6-0, 6-1 win by Armstrong in No. 6 singles. 
  • Choudhary earned a 6-1, 6-0 win in two singles to seal the match for MIT.  
  • Gallagher won in No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-2 followed by a 6-1, 6-1 win in No. 1 singles from Kahler. Tahk closed out the match with a 7-6, 7-6 win in five singles.   

UP NEXT: 

  • The Engineers continue NEWMAC play with a 4:00PM match against Springfield on Wednesday, April 2. The Lyons are back in action on Tuesday, March 25 for a 4:00 PM match at Colby-Sawyer.
