Hannah Tao Competes at NCAA National Collegiate Fencing Championship

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – In her NCAA National Collegiate Fencing Championship debut, MIT sophomore Hannah Tao (Mountainside, N.J.) recorded a victory during the opening day of the women's sabre competition on Saturday at Penn State.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Round 1: Tao fell to Samantha Marsee of Cornell (5-1), Tamar Gordon of Columbia (5-1), Julia Cieslar of St. John's (5-4), Chloe Gouhin of Columbia (5-4), Catinca Dumitru of St. John's (5-3), Eunyu Kim of Penn State (5-3), and Josephine Chang of Johns Hopkins (5-1).
  • Round 2: Tao lost to Kaitlyn Pak of Harvard (5-1), Jenna Shoman of Harvard (5-1), Soph Bililies of Brown (5-2), and Audrey Lin of Yale (5-1).
  • Round 3: Tao defeated Zhiyin Lin of Stanford (5-2) but fell to Alexandra Cody of UC San Diego (5-1), Sophia Chin of Stanford (5-4), and Natalia Botello of Ohio State (5-3).
UP NEXT:
  • Tao, who ranks 24th in the individual standings, will conclude the NCAA National Collegiate Championship with rounds four and five beginning at 9:00 AM on Sunday, March 23.
