UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Sophomore
Hannah Tao (Mountainside, N.J.) picked up a pair of wins during the final day of the NCAA National Collegiate Fencing Championship, helping her move up to 23
rd place in the individual women's sabre standings on Sunday at Penn State. As a team, MIT finished 32
nd out of 33 squads.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Round 4: Tao defeated Leah Blum of Penn (5-0) and Natalie Shearer of Northwestern (5-1) but lost to Alex Chen of Northwestern (5-2) and Sophia Kovacs of UNC (5-3).
- Round 5: Tao fell to Magda Skarbonkiewicz of Notre Dame (5-3), Emese Domonkos of Princeton (5-4), Alexandra Lee of Princeton (5-2), and Siobhan Sullivan of Notre Dame (5-2). Skarbonkiewicz, Lee, and Sullivan went on to claim three of the four spots in the semifinals.
