CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT women's openweight crew team opened the spring season on Saturday on the Charles River, defeating the United States Coast Guard Academy in all three races.

THE BASICS:

• V8+: 1st of 2
• 2V8+: 1st of 2
• 3V8+: 1st of 3

RACE BY RACE:

• V8+: MIT's top boat wasn't slowed by the chilly and challenging conditions, including a strong headwind and chop, on the Charles, as the Engineers defeated Coast Guard by over 30 seconds. MIT finished in 7:35.5, with Coast Guard following in 8:08.2.
• 2V8+: The second varsity boat was also dominant, running away from Coast Guard by a 48 second margin, finishing in 7:51.4 with the Bears behind in 8:39.0.
• 3V8+: MIT's third varsity boat outraced two Coast Guard boats in the final race of the day, finishing in 7:56.1. Coast Guard's 3V8+ was second in 8:28.1 and the Coast Guard 4V8+ was third in 9:15.0.
