Men's Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision to No. 16 Hobart

GENEVA, N.Y. - The MIT men's volleyball team concluded UVC play with on Saturday afternoon against No. 16 Hobart as the Engineers dropped a 3-0 match to the Statesmen. 
 
THE BASICS:  

  • Score: No. 16 Hobart 3, MIT 0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-21) 
  • Records: MIT (13-14 Overall, 0-7 UVC), No. 16 Hobart (19-8 Overall, 2-4 UVC) 

HOW IT HAPPENED  

  • Set 1: A 5-1 run allowed Hobart to take a 14-7 lead. A 4-1 run from MIT made it a 15-11 match, but the Statesmen used a 5-1 run at the end of the set to secure the 25-17 win.  
  • Set 2: Hobart used an early 6-0 run to go up 6-1. A kill from senior Grant Oh (Irvine, Calif.) cut the Hobart lead to 14-11, and though the Engineers hung around they were unable to pull much closer as the Statesmen took the second set 25-17. 
  • Set 3: Oh gave MIT an early 4-1 lead which the Engineers held on to until a 3-1 run from Hobart tied the match at 11. MIT regained the lead and a kill from Oh put the Engineers up by two. Hobart then used a 4-0 run to go up 16-14 as they would hold on for the 25-21 victory.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  

  • Grant Oh posted a match-high 14 kills and also had three blocks. 
  • Junior Michael Rini (Huntington Beach, Calif.) collected five kills and four blocks while classmate Ben Volokh (Studio City, Calif.) added four kills.  
  • Senior Riley Oh (Irvine, Calif.) posted 23 assists and six digs while junior Kevin Windisch (Placentia, Calif.) led the way with eight digs. 

UP NEXT: 

  • The Engineers return to Rockwell Cage for a 7:00 PM match against Lasell on Wednesday, April 2. Hobart next plays on Saturday, April 5 for its regular season finale against Elmira at 12:00 PM.
