SAN ANTONIO, Texas – No. 12 MIT defeated No. 23 Gustavus Adolphus College, 6-1, at Trinity University on Saturday. This was the second meeting between both women's tennis programs and the first since 2016-17, which the Engineers won.

HOW IT HAPPENED - DOUBLES:
- Senior Jay Lu (Austin, Texas) and first-year Chloe Zeng (Austin, Texas) won the first five games against juniors Molly Austin (Arden Hills, Minn.) and Allison Szalay (Des Moines, Iowa) before going on to capture a 6-1 win the No. 2 slot.
- In a back-and-forth match, sophomores Saina Deshpande (Pune, India) and Anastasia Samets (Ocean, N.J.) won the last two games, defeating sophomore Ella De Young (Iowa City, Iowa) and first-year Elena Davis (St. Louis, Mo.), 6-4, and capturing the doubles point in the No. 3 position.
- Trailing 4-3 in the top spot, juniors Alaina Kolli (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) and Artemis Pados (Delray Beach, Fla.) won back-to-back games, however, junior Kaya De Bruijn (Maasland, Netherlands) and first-year Karina Elvestrom (Minnetonka, Minn.) tied the match at 5-5. Kolli and Pados responded with a pair of victories to complete the sweep.
HOW IT HAPPENED - SINGLES:
- For the second day in a row, Deshpande gave MIT a 2-0 lead after defeating first-year Noor Omar (Fridley, Minn.), 6-0, 6-1, in the No. 4 position.
- Lu defeated De Bruijn, 6-3, 6-1, in the No. 2 slot.
- In the No. 5 spot, first-year Megan Sun (Newbury Park, Calif.) defeated junior Pavla Yakimova (Glasgow, Scotland), 6-2, in the first set. Sun then rallied from a 4-3 deficit to win the second set (6-4) and clinch the match for the Engineers.
- Sophomore Alicen Liu (Novi, Mich.) fell to senior Brooke Haddorff (Burnsville, Minn.), 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (11-9), at No. 6 singles.
- After dropping the first set, 6-2, to Austin in the No. 3 slot, Kolli bounced back with scores of 6-2 and 6-0 to capture the win.
- Zeng wrapped up the match by defeating Elvestrom, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5, at the top of the ladder.
