Box Score SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The No. 12 MIT women's tennis team closed out its trip to Texas by defeating No. 9 Washington University in St. Louis, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon. This was the third meeting between both programs and the Engineers' first victory over the Bears.
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED - DOUBLES:
- After conceding the first game, senior Jay Lu (Austin, Texas) and first-year Chloe Zeng (Austin, Texas) rattled off six straight victories to defeat juniors Amber Edmonds (Bellevue, Wash.) and Eliana Hanna (La Canada, Calif.) in the No. 2 position.
- Juniors Alaina Kolli (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) and Artemis Pados (Delray Beach, Fla.) jumped out to a 5-1 lead, but sophomore Eleanor Archer (Amarillo, Texas) and first-year Caitlin Bui (Bayside, N.Y.) battled back to tie the No. 1 doubles match at 5-5. Kolli and Pados responded by winning the next two games to capture the doubles point.
- In a back-and-forth battle at the No. 3 spot, sophomores Saina Deshpande (Pune, India) and Anastasia Samets (Ocean, N.J.) won back-to-back games to take a 6-5 edge over first-years Chloe Brissett (Houston, Texas) and Samantha Slowik (Durham, N.C.). However, WashU won the next game and generated a 7-2 score in the tiebreak to post a 7-6 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED - SINGLES:
- Samets cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over junior Nina Moravek (Gig Harbor, Wash.) in the No. 5 position.
- At No. 2 singles, Lu rallied from a 4-3 deficit in the first set to record a 6-4 win and then topped Bui, 6-2, in the second set to give MIT a 3-0 lead.
- The Bears picked up a point when Archer defeated Zeng, 6-4, 6-3, in the top spot.
- However, first-year Megan Sun (Newbury Park, Calif.) clinched the match when she defeated Edmonds, 6-4, 6-1, in the No. 6 slot.
- Kolli fell to Hanna, 6-2, 0-6, 6-4 in the No. 3 position. Kolli tied the third set at 4-4, however, Hanna won the next two games, resulting in WashU's second point of the day.
- In the No. 5 spot, Deshpande trailed first-year Ally Lin (Katy, Texas), 5-2, in the first set but she came back to force a tiebreaker. Lin jumped out to a 4-0 lead, however, Deshpande battled back for a 7-4 win. The tight play continued in the second set as back-to-back victories gave Deshpande a 5-4 edge. Lin won the next game, but Deshpande went on to claim the set, 7-5.
