Women’s Openweight Crew Has Strong Opening Day at Knecht Cup Regatta

CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The MIT women's openweight crew varsity eight and second varsity eight and second varsity four each advanced to tomorrow's finals as the Engineers raced Saturday at the Knecht Cup Regatta.

THE BASICS:

  • V8+:
    • 2nd of 6 (7:26.42) in Heat 2
    • 2nd of 6 (7:26.40) in Semi-Final 1
  • 2V8+:
    • 1st of 5 (7:26.76) in Heat 3
    • 1st of 6 (7:28.22) in Semi-Final 2
  • V4+:
    • 3rd of 5 (8:56.43) in Heat 3
    • 5th of 6th (8:37.85) in Semi-Final 1
  • 2V4+:
    • 1st of 5 (8:58.80), advanced to Sunday's final

RACE BY RACE: 

  • V8+:
    • Heat: MIT advanced to the Varsity Eight Semi-Finals with a second place finish in the morning's second heat. The Engineers, stroked by junior Kayla Robertson (Montreal, Quebec) finished 3.92 seconds behind Radcliffe and 6.77 seconds ahead of third place Marist.
    • Semi-Final: MIT was second in the final race of the day, finishing in 7:26.40 and advancing to Sunday's final. BU was first, 13.50 seconds ahead of the Engineers.
  • 2V8+:
    • Heat: The Engineers were the top team in Heat 3, advancing to the Semi-Finals with a time of 7:26.76. MIT, stroked by senior Emily Warren (Menlo Park, Calif. ) was 8.28 seconds ahead of UMass and nearly 20 seconds ahead of third place Villanova.
    • Semi-Final: MIT was the top team in its heat in the Semi-Final, advanced to Sunday's final with a time of 7:28.22. The Engineers finished 4.3 seconds ahead of Bucknell. 
  • V4+: 
    • Heat: MIT secured a spot in the Semi-Final with a third place finish the morning heats. The Engineers, stroked by junior Norah Miller (Oakwood, Ohio) were 18 seconds back of second place BU but were nearly 19 seconds of LaSalle in fourth. Lafayette won MIT's heat in 8:33.92.
    • Semi-Final: The Engineers finished 5th in the first Semi-Final with a time of 8:37.85. Bucknell was first to the line in 8:27.71.
  • 2V4+: 
    • Heat: The MIT Second Varsity Four, stroked by first year Sophie Latz (Atlanta, Ga.) paced the field advancing to Sunday's final in 8:58.80. The Engineers topped second place Bucknell by 6.79 seconds and were 18.48 seconds ahead of third place Lehigh.
