Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

No. 12 Middlebury Clips Men's Tennis, 4-3

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The MIT men's tennis team fell to No. 12 Middlebury in a tightly contested road non-conference match on Sunday afternoon by a score of 4-3.

THE BASICS: 

  • Score: No. 12 Middlebury 4, MIT 3 
  • Records: MIT (7-6 Overall), Middlebury (9-5 Overall) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Panthers swept doubles action to earn the first point of the match. 
  • Middlebury quickly earned wins in No. 6 and No. 1 singles to pull out to a 3-0 lead.  
  • Senior Ryan Xiao (Cary, N.C.) took a 6-2, 6-3 win in No. 2 singles and sophomore Siddharth Marathe (Pune, India) followed with a 6-1, 6-4 victory in four singles to cut the Panthers lead to 3-2.  
  • The host got the decisive fourth point with a straight set win in No. 3 singles. 
  • Sophomore Shrish Choudhary (Fremont, Calif.) closed out the day, rallying from dropping the opening set, to win the next two.  

UP NEXT:

  • MIT is back on the courts on Wednesday, April 16 in split-squad action as they will host Emerson at 2:30 PM and take on Amherst on the road at 3:30 PM. The Panthers will head to Williams on April 19 for a 12:00 PM match.
