Men's Tennis Grabs 7-0 NEWMAC Victory Over Emerson

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT men's tennis team did not drop a set as the Engineers claimed a 7-0 NEWMAC victory at home against Emerson. 
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT – 7, Emerson 0 
  • Records: MIT (8-7 Overall, 5-1 NEWMAC), Emerson (8-10, 2-4 NEWMAC) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Engineers made quick work of doubles play, winning all three courts. Juniors Nicholas Liu (San Diego, Calif.) and Jeremy Yu (Coppell, Texas) opened play with a 6-1 win in three doubles and sophomores Grant Gallagher (Irvine, Calif.) and Cole Armstrong (Mary Esther, Fla.) followed with a 6-4 win in No. 2 doubles. The No. 1 singles pair of grad student Joseph Li (Naperville, Ill.) and sophomore Adam Sun (Glendale, Ariz.) wrapped up with a 6-3 win.  
  • Yu kicked off singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win in No. 4 singles while first year SangHyuk Im (Irvine, Calif.) made quick work in No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory. 
  • Gallagher sealed the win in No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-0 win and Li followed in two singles with a 6-0, 6-4 victory. 
  • Liu earned a 6-2, 6-0 win in five singles and Armstrong wrapped up the day with a 6-2, 6-2 win in six singles.  

 
UP NEXT: 

  • MIT wraps up the regular season next weekend with an 11:00 AM road match at Bowdoin and a 12:00 PM home NEWMAC contest against Salve Regina. The Lions conclude the regular season on Saturday with a 10:30 AM road contest at Clark.
