CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT men's tennis team secured the number two seed in next weekend's NEWMAC Championship with a 7-0 win over Salve Regina on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 9 Bowdoin earlier in the day in Maine.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. SALVE REGINA:
- MIT dropped just two games in doubles play. First year SangHyuk Im (Irvine, Calif.) and graduate student Tim Schmedding (Hamburg, Germany) won No. 1 doubles 6-2 while juniors Jeremy Yu (Coppell, Texas) and Nicholas Liu (San Diego, Calif.) and first year Youngwoo Tahk (Sunnyvale, Calif.) and sophomore Cole Armstrong (Mary Esther, Fla.) both earned 6-0 victories.
- Im took No. 1 singles by a score of 6-4, 6-2 while Schmedding followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win in No. 2 singles.
- Junior Ethan Nguyen (Farmington, N.M.), Yu, and Liu all earned 6-0, 6-0 victories and Armstrong ) closed the day with a 6-1, 6-0 win in No. 6 singles.
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. BOWDOIN:
- The Polar Bears won all three doubles matches by 6-2 scores.
- Sophomore Siddharth Marathe (Pune, India) grabbed the lone singles win for MIT, rallying after dropping the first set 4-6 to win the next two, 6-2, 6-3.
UP NEXT:
- The Engineers will now head into postseason play with the NEWMAC Championships. MIT will host the semifinal match against Springfield on Friday, April 25 at 3:00 PM as they earned the No. 2 seed in the championship.
