Men's Tennis Drops 7-0 Decision to No. 12 Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. – The MIT men's tennis team concluded the regular season with a 7-0 road loss to No. 12 Amherst on Thursday afternoon.  
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: Amherst 7, MIT 0 
  • Records: MIT (9-8 Overall), No. 12 Amherst (13-5 Overall) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Mammoth swept doubles play, winning all three courts by 6-3 scores to go up 1-0. 
  • Amherst grabbed victories in No. 5 and No. 6 singles to go up 3-0. 
  • After dropping the first set 6-1 in No. 1 singles, grad student Kailas Kahler (Pawtucket, R.I.) looked to force a third set but fell to Andreas Sillaste (Oulu, Finland) 7-6 in the second set to give the home team the decisive fourth point. 
  • Sophomore Shrish Choudhary (Fremont, Calif.) dropped the first set 3-6 but took the next set 6-4, however Rex Harrison (La Jolla, Calif.) took the decisive set 6-4. 

UP NEXT: 

  • The Engineers will open the NEWMAC Championship with the semifinal match against Springfield on Friday, April 25 at 3:00 PM on the DuPont Tennis Courts.
