BEVERLY, Mass. - The MIT softball team split a road non-conference doubleheader against Endicott on Wednesday afternoon. Â

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE:Â
- MIT grabbed a 2-0 lead after one on sacrifice flies from sophomore Arianna Kumar (San Diego, Calif.) and senior Kennedy Adkison (San Jose, Calif.).Â
- Senior Mikayla Cable made it 3-0 with a homer over the left field wall in the third. Â
- Junior Caroline Langmeyer (Upper Arlington, Ohio) held the Gulls in check until the sixth when Dani Lear (Groveland, Mass.) hit a bases loaded double to cut the MIT lead to one. Junior Ava Ladd (Austin, Texas) singled to lead off the seventh and classmate Olivia Scarpaci (Staten Island, N.Y.) brought her home with a home run to left-center to make it 5-2. Â
- Endicott got a one-out homer from Abby McClaflin (Easthampton, Mass.) to make it a two-run game in the bottom of the seventh and Paige Berdos (Plainville, Mass.) hit a two-out double to score the fourth run of the day for the Gulls but, after a long at-bat, Langmeyer got Mia Mitchell (Medford, Mass.) to fly out to Adkison in right to end the game.Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:Â
- With their two homers in the game, the Engineers bring their season total to 13, three shy of the program record. Cable and Scarpaci both hit their third homers of the season.Â
- First year Layla Thiessen (Carlsblad, Calif.) went 3-4 from the lead-off spot while Cable went 2-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Â
- Langmeyer moves to 4-1 on the year with her third complete game. She allowed four runs on nine hits with five strikeouts. Â
- Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) falls to 2-3 for Endicott as she tossed seven innings allowing five runs on eight hits. Â Â
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO:Â
- An RBI single in the first and a two-run double in the second gave the Gulls an early 3-0 advantage.Â
- A single by Kumar and a walk to Adkison with one out in the fourth set the stage for Ladd who launched the ball over the left-center wall to tie the game at three.Â
- Endicott responded, scoring five runs in the bottom of the inning to take an 8-3 lead. Â
- A wild pitch and an error helped plate the fourth and fifth Engineer runs of the game while Adkison singled home the sixth run for MIT in the fifth, but the Engineers could not get any more runs across the plate.Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:Â
- Ladd connected on her second home run of the season and her three RBI gives her a team-leading 13 on the season. Â
- First year Delaney Benevides (Plainville, Mass.) finished 2-3 on the day.Â

- The Engineers will host Babson in NEWMAC action on Saturday, April 5 with first pitch of the doubleheader scheduled for 12:00 PM. The Gulls will host Roger Williams on Saturday beginning at 12:00 PM. Â
