Men's Tennis Advances to NEWMAC Championship with 4-0 Win Over Springfield

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT men's tennis team earned a spot in the NEWMAC Men's Tennis Championship with a 4-0 win over Springfield on Friday afternoon on the DuPont Tennis Courts. 
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 4, Springfield 0 
  • Records: MIT (10-9 Overall), Springfield (13-4 Overall) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Graduate student Joseph Li (Naperville, Ill.) and sophomore Adam Sun (Glendale, Ariz.) opened with a 6-3 win in No. 1 doubles followed by a 6-3 win in No. 2 doubles by grad student Kailas Kahler (Pawtucket, R.I.) and sophomore Grant Gallagher (Irvine, Calif.) to give the Engineer a 1-0 lead. 
  • Kahler earned a decisive 6-0, 6-1 win in No. 1 singles and Sun followed with a 6-1, 6-2 in No. 3 singles. 
  • Sophomore Siddharth Marathe (Pune, India) closed the day with a 6-1, 6-0 in No. 4 singles.   

UP NEXT: 

  • MIT will play in the NEWMAC Championship on Sunday at Babson at 1:00 PM as the Engineers will be looking to win the program's 25th NEWMAC Title.
